Florida Woman threatens to jump from second floor balcony, throws dog instead

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Florida woman Allison Murphy threatened to jump off the second floor of a Daytona Beach motel on Monday, but instead threw her dog over the railing after deputies responded to a 911 call.

Murphy, 35, was arrested by Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies on felony charges of animal cruelty and resisting an officer with violence after throwing the dog over the railing.

Deputies responded to the Motel 6 around noon, after motel staff said the Florida woman had been standing over the railing, threatening to jump off. According to witnesses, Murphy attacked one of the motel’s maids.

When deputies arrived, Murphy locked herself in her room. The Florida woman eventually emerged with a leashed German Shepherd, which she picked up and threw over the railing to the ground below.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the dog landed feet-first and ran away, but was corralled by bystanders. Deputies say the dog survived without serious injury.

According to NBC 2 News, “Volusia County Animal Services took custody of the dog and named her “Miracle.” She was taken to an animal hospital for emergency evaluation. Miracle luckily escaped without serious injury, however, an X-ray revealed a sewing needle was lodged in her right thigh.

The needle was removed and Miracle is recovering with Animal Services.

A petition for custody over Miracle will be scheduled with the courts in the following weeks.
