Florida Woman steals electric shopping cart from Wal-Mart, tells cops she’s “disabled”

OCALA, Fla. – 28-year-old Florida woman Avril Renee Toye was arrested on Tuesday after she stole an electric-powered shopping cart from Wal-Mart.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to the Stage Stop Motel on Tuesday, where the manager of the motel asked him to remove Toye from the premises.

The motel manager told the deputy that Toye was in possession of an electric shopping cart from Wal-Mart.

The deputy asked the Florida woman if she stole the cart from Wal-Mart, to which Toye responded “I’m handicap and yes I took it.”

The deputy spoke with a manager at the Wal-Mart where the cart was stolen, who said he wanted to press charges for the theft.

The Wal-Mart manager estimated the value of the cart at $2,000.

According to Ocala-News.com, “Toye was charged with grand theft of between $300 and $5,000. She was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Wednesday night on $2,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court in Jan. 12, 2021.”
